Image-Based Modeling and Rendering Techniques: A Survey
نویسنده
چکیده
A recent convergence of computer graphics and computer vision has produced a set of techniques collectively known as image-based modeling and rendering (IBMR). Image-based modeling refers to the use of images to drive the reconstruction of 3D models. In the case of image-based rendering, the goal is to achieve more realistic and faster renderings and to simplify the modeling task by using images, as opposed to polygons, as both modeling and rendering primitives. Image-based approaches can potentially eliminate the labor-intensive task usually required for modeling detailed geometric structures. They can also handle subtle real-world effects captured by images, but difficult to reproduce with conventional graphics techniques. This paper surveys the state-of-the-art in image-based modeling and rendering techniques, discussing the fundamental principles behind each technique, their strengths and limitations.

Segmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering
Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...
متن کاملSurvey of image-based representations and compression techniques
In this paper, we survey the techniques for image-based rendering (IBR) and for compressing image-based representations. Unlike traditional three-dimensional (3-D) computer graphics, in which 3-D geometry of the scene is known, IBR techniques render novel views directly from input images. IBR techniques can be classified into three categories according to how much geometric information is used:...
متن کاملA Survey of Image-based Rendering Techniques
In this article, we survey the techniques for image-based rendering. In contrast with the conventional approach of using 3-D models for creating new virtual views, image-based rendering techniques require only the original images to produce new virtual views. We have identified four basic categories for image-based rendering techniques, namely non-physically based image mapping, mosaicking, int...
متن کاملImage-based rendering
Image-based rendering (IBR) is unique in that it requires computer graphics, computer vision, and image processing to join forces to solve a common goal, namely photorealistic rendering through the use of images. IBR as an area of research has been around for about ten years, and substantial progress has been achieved in effectively capturing, representing, and rendering scenes. In this article...

In this paper, we survey the techniques for image-based rendering. Unlike traditional 3D computer graphics in which 3D geometry of the scene is known, image-based rendering techniques render novel views directly from input images. Previous image-based rendering techniques can be classified into three categories according to how much geometric information is used: rendering without geometry, ren...
